Kansas City Chiefs
Despite leading by two touchdowns with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, the Chiefs became the latest victim of a Philip Rivers comeback when they collapsed late against the Chargers last Thursday to lose a stunner 29-28.
While star quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed for 243 yards with two touchdowns and no picks and running back Damien Williams added a pair of rushing scores in the loss, it wasn’t enough to overcome the streaking Chargers and now the Chiefs are semi-desperate to get a division-clinching win in this contest.
“They found a way to win and we didn’t,” Mahomes said. “You have to find a way in this league.”
The Chiefs average a league-leading 35.6 points per game but give up a generous 27.1 points per contest defensively (28th).
• Over is 4-0 in Chiefs last 4 games overall.
• Over is 4-0 in Chiefs last 4 road games.
• Over is 4-0 in Chiefs last 4 games in December.
• Under is 6-1 in Chiefs last 7 games in Week 16.
• Over is 5-1 in Chiefs last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
• Over is 4-1 in Chiefs last 5 vs. a team with a winning record
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle smacked NFC West division rival San Francisco senseless in their 43-16 home win in Week 13, but they failed to get the regular season sweep as the Niners exacted some serious revenge by stunning Seattle 26-23 in overtime last weekend to deny them a berth to the playoffs. The Seahawks got 237 passing yards and two touchdowns from Russell Wilson and 119 rushing yards and one score from running back Chris Carson, but it wasn’t enough to beat their NFC West division rivals.
“We kept ourselves in the game, but we shot ourselves in the foot a bunch of times,” offensive lineman Duane Brown said. “We had plenty of opportunities to take it over, but we set ourselves back. We have to find a way to fix it. It’s not going to get any easier.”
Seattle averages 25.9 points per game to rank ninth in scoring while limiting the opposition to 20.9 points per game defensively to rank eighth in points allowed.
• Over is 5-1 in Seahawks last 6 games overall.
• Over is 7-2 in Seahawks last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
• Over is 5-2 in Seahawks last 7 games in December.
• Over is 5-2 in Seahawks last 7 vs. a team with a winning record.
Expert Pick and Prediction
While the key trends for both teams in this intriguing Week 16 Inter-Conference clash seems to suggest an Over outcome, I’m going to
advise you to play the Under, even though I think it’s going to be razor close. Seattle has a solid defense and they’re playing at home, so I’m expecting Russell Wilson and company to bring their collective ‘A’ games this coming weekend.
However, I don’t necessarily think Seattle’s offense is going to be able to keep a pack with Kansas City’s which is why I’m picking the Chiefs for the narrow outright win. This one is going to be a flat-out thriller that plays just under the 53.5-point total.
Predicted Score Kansas City Chiefs 28 | Seattle Seahawks 24
